Metropia’s 2024 Highlights

Event Photo Collection

Metropia celebrates a year of achievements that reflect our commitment to engineering smarter, sustainable mobility solutions. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, strategic partnerships, and data-driven methodologies, we have continued to address the complexities of transportation system management and operations.

Houston ConnectSmart: Engineering Year Two Success

App Usage Guide

TXDOT Houston’s ConnectSmart platform and its associated MaaS platform support a robust intermodal engine, an innovative mobility wallet, and user-centric ATIS messaging by integrating weather APIs, construction information, incident and flood data, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and C-V2X, to influence traveler behavior and enhance safety. Some of the feature integrations in 2024 included Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, third-party navigation, and HOV/HOT lane recognition. The second full year showcased measurable results that underscore the system's design and operational efficiency. In 2024, the platform facilitated the sale of over 54,000 transit tickets, eliminated 51,000 vehicular miles traveled (VMT), and reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 46,000 pounds.

Taiwan MaaS API Platform: National Scalability

Taiwan MaaS Visions

Metropia's engineering efforts continue to shine through the ongoing success of Taiwan’s national MaaS API platform. Five years in development, the system integrates over 9,000 transit routes and processes 200,000 daily scheduled transit trips with real-time service alerts and updates. Its architecture supports six interconnected city MaaS systems (including Taiwan Railways, High-Speed Rail, highway buses, metro, buses, and ferries, as well as public and private first/last mile transportation services, such as Ubike shared bikes and other transport services), serving a population of more than 10 million. The successful completion of the 2024 mid-term review reflects the platform's scalability and role as a model for future integrated mobility systems worldwide.

GoMyWayVA: Laying the Foundation for Smart Mobility in Northern Virginia

GoMyWayVA Coming Soon

The upcoming February 2025 Pioneer release of GoMyWayVA, our MaaS application for Northern Virginia, represents a significant milestone in our collaboration with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), as part of the Regional Multi-Modal Mobility Program (RM3P). The app’s modular design features inter-modal trip planning, time and cost comparisons, and dynamic incentivization to drive shifts in travel behavior. As we refine the platform in preparation for a full launch later in 2025, our engineering team remains focused on optimizing the user experience and system interoperability.

CarbonCred Partnership: Engineering for Sustainability

CarbonCred Partnership Photo

In late 2024, Metropia and CarbonCred signed a partnership MOU that will include integrating the Metropia MaaS platform with CarbonCred’s carbon credit certification framework. The system is engineered to offer travelers personalized mobility recommendations to support VMT and emissions reductions while providing clients with a platform to track VMT and carbon credits. By combining behavioral science with robust data infrastructure, this initiative enables cities and employers to quantify their impact on sustainability goals and encourages scalable reductions in urban emissions.

Industry Insight and Leadership through Panels and Events

In 2024, Metropia contributed to critical discussions shaping the future of transportation engineering. Our CEO and Founder, Yi-Chang Chiu, shared insights on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and dynamic incentivization (DI) at the 9th Annual Northern Virginia Transportation Roundtable and the TDM and Carbon Reduction: Public and Private Approaches event hosted by the Association for Commuter Transportation. Additionally, Metropia advisor Meng-Feng Wu joined a distinguished panel at the ITS World Congress, exploring challenges in creating integrated transport ecosystems and the role of emerging technologies in transforming transportation networks globally.

Looking Forward

Metropia’s 2024 highlights underscore the importance of engineering-driven solutions in solving today’s transportation challenges. As we enter 2025, we remain committed to pushing the boundaries of MaaS, sustainability, and system integration to create a more efficient and accessible transportation future. Thank you to our clients, partners, and staff for making these milestones possible.
