The holidays are officially here and we’ve made it easy for our Metropians to give back this holiday season. With every trip you take using the Metropia app around town, to school, work, the store (you get the gist), you are not only helping reduce traffic congestion, but also earning points you can then use to donate to the local nonprofit Meals on Wheels Central Texas.
Since 1972, Meals on Wheels Central Texas (MOWCT) has been hard at work delivering hot and nutritious meals to homebound seniors and people with disabilities. Today, the organization is one of the largest meal-delivery organizations in Texas, distributing more than 3,000 meals each and every business day.
How can I participate, you ask? It’s really simple actually. Just tap on My Metropia, the app rewards section of the app, and look for the Meals on Wheels Central Texas (MOWCT) icon. For only 750 of your Metropia points, you can give someone a hot meal from MOWCT this holiday season. Or if you’re feeling especially generous you can donate an entire week’s worth of meals at once.
Metropia’s partnership with Meals on Wheels Central Texas started in 2015 and marked Metropia’s first Austin-based nonprofit partnership. In case you missed it last year, take a look at how our Metropians made and continue to make a difference in the lives of Central Texans.
New and current Metropia app users alike can participate, so tell your friends, tell your family, and let’s continue to help spread the holiday cheer to Central Texans this holiday season!
Metropia’s mission is to make our cities better places to live, and those who use the app take part in doing just that. As of October 2016, Austin-area Metropians have:
- Reduced the amount of time they spend on roads by 7,000 hours (close to 300 days!)
- Reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 475,000 pounds, donated hot meals with their earned Metropia points to Meals on Wheels Central Texas
- Planted nearly 4,750 trees and counting
Thanks to our Metropia app users, together we’re making a difference in our community and #driving a #bettercity.
