Austin traffic during morning and evening rush hour is bad and quickly getting worse. The good news is that our transportation system can work much better if we are not all using it at the same time.
On Wednesday, May 11, Mayor Adler challenges Austin-area commuters to get to and from work differently that day, if they can. The request is for commuters to choose any way to get to/from work other than driving alone during rush hours between 7–9 am and 4–6 pm. (Note: To have the greatest odds of more tolerable congestion, if you have the flexibility, aim to arrive outside the hours of 7-9:30am and depart outside 4-7pm.)
The easiest way for many people to avoid rush hour may be to flex their schedule to commute before or after rush hours. If your employer allows it, telecommuting/working from home is also a great option! You may discover a way to work that makes you more productive, saves time and saves money, and avoids the hassles of rush hour traffic. If you like it maybe you can do it more often!
