Fast forward two years since Metropia’s launch in May 2015, and Austin's Metropia app users have saved more than 650,000 lbs of CO2 and more than 20,000 hours on their commutes (if you add these hours up, that’s more than 2 years of time saved and counting!). Not only are Metropians tackling traffic but also giving back to our communities, choosing to donate their earned points to plant more than 7,000 trees and donate warm meals to the local non-profit, Meals on Wheels and More.

Metropia app users continue to help drive a #betteratx. And by helping improve the flow of traffic in our city, the growing Metropia community is helping to create a more vibrant economy, reduce commuter stress, improve air quality, and enhance the overall quality of life in Austin. And after only two years, we’re already seeing that Metropians are helping our city be a better place to live.

The holidays are officially here and we’ve made it easy for our Metropians to give back this holiday season. With every trip you take using the Metropia app around town, to school, work, the store (you get the gist), you are not only helping reduce traffic congestion, but also earning points you can then use to donate to the local nonprofit Meals on Wheels Central Texas.

Since 1972, Meals on Wheels Central Texas (MOWCT) has been hard at work delivering hot and nutritious meals to homebound seniors and people with disabilities. Today, the organization is one of the largest meal-delivery organizations in Texas, distributing more than 3,000 meals each and every business day.

How can I participate, you ask? It’s really simple...

Emergency Supplies to Keep in Your Car

There are a lot of emergency situations in this world that you can prepare yourself for. You probably have a fire escape plan map up in your office, a first aid kit in your bathroom or kitchen, and maybe you’ve taken a self-defense course to make sure that you have the tools necessary should the worst happen.

And that does not include road trips, weekend getaways, and errands run around town.

AUSTIN, Texas (Aug. 16, 2016) –Metropia, the creator of a free app that alleviates traffic congestion, in partnership with the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority announced today its plan to integrate Austin-area and regional school zone data into its routing and travel time algorithms, effective Aug. 22, through its partnership with the Austin Transportation Department (ATD).

By aggregating school zone location information into its travel time prediction algorithms, the Metropia app can now account for reduced speed limits and the many crosswalks found in school zone areas throughout the academic year. As a result, utilizing the Metropia app not only helps drivers avoid those congested areas, but can also provide a safer environment for student pedestrians by reducing traffic near schools.
